Since last June the famous painting by Titian “La Bella” is on restauration in the Opificio delle Pietre dure in Florence, which is the seat of the Institute of Restauration of the city. The painting was recently polished removing the yellowish patina revealing the original colors: the pink of the cheeks, the blue of the velvet dress, the bright light of the pearls and of the gold chain and the impressive details of the hairstyle. Titian painted the famous portrait in 1536, we know from documents that the painting was property of the Duke of Urbino, Francesco Maria della Rovere and it was in the inventory of the Medici collection since 1694. Then it was brought to Paris by Napoleon and given back to the Palatina Gallery of the Pitti Palace of Florence after the Congress of Wien in 1814.
