The art of selfportrait made by paintresses from Renaissance until today in a great exhibition “ Autoritratte. Artiste di capriccioso e destrissimo ingegno” at the Reali Poste of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence until January 30th 2011.
It is a selection of 80 pieces which is part of the famous collection of selportraits (1700 pieces) mainly shown in the Vasarian Corridor. Sixty of them are very famous, such as la Tintoretta, Rosalba Carriera, Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun, but the exhibition wants to point out the quality, the fame, the originality, the attention for fashion even in the paintings of the unknown ones.
Besides 20 new artists, invited by the Uffizi Gallery, sent their selfportaits using different techniques such as oil, collage, tapestry, video and photography. Among them Carla Accardi, Jenny Holzer, Vanessa Beecroft, Patty Smith.
