Since September 8th, feast of the Cathedral of Florence, the famous Gate of Paradise by Lorenzo Ghiberti is visible again after a 27 year restoration. The gilded bronze door, 5 metre  high and 8 ton weight,  is displayed in the Museum of the Opera del Duomo in Florence and it is now  preserved under controlled atmosphere in a special glass box.
The restauration, made by the Opificio delle Pietre Dure,  was supported by Ministero Beni Culturali and the Association Friends of Florence.
