Since last June 24 2012 (feast of St. John the Baptist, patron saint of Florence) the Tribune by Buontalenti, wonder room of the Uffizi Gallery of Florence,  was reopened. This octagonal space, built for Francesco I de’Medici in 1584, was closed since 2009 for a long restoration supported by the Association Friends of Florence. The operation took longer than expected because of the cleaning of the 6 thousands mother-of-pearl shells set on the inner dome. For preservative aims  visitors are no more allowed  entering  the room, but they can see it through three doors (one of them recently open in Leonardo da Vinci’s room). In the middle of the room the famous Medici Venus and the other roman statues are visible again, while the paintings were recently  displayed in the rooms at the first floor (Florentine Cinquecento), with the access from the area of the Cafeteria.
