A wonderful precious little exibition in the magnificent rooms of the Argenti Museum at the ground floor of the Pitti Palace in Florence. It is a selected group of high quality items from the most important Italian and foreign museums, displayed in a space which was the summer apartament of the Medici family. The exibit shows the history of the collection of ancient intagli and cameos, begun by Cosimo the Elder of the Medici family, his son Piero and his grandson Lorenzo the magnificent. Besides it puts in evidence the great influence the figures represented in these “jewels” had on the most important artists of Renaissance art, such as Donatello, Botticelli, Ghiberti, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, becoming incredible reference points for their masterpieces.
Until 27th June 2010.
